Gepard is a 5-star Tank in Honkai Star Rail known for being an excellent provider of shields for the entire team. A well-built Gepard is entirely capable of keeping the team well-protected unless the damage received is exceptionally high.

Naturally, he is also a very resilient character due to his high Defense (unless you build him incorrectly, of course). In fact, one of his great strengths is an ability that allows him to self-resurrect once per battle, something that is incredibly beneficial for a Tank character.

Another of his virtues is that he can also freeze certain enemies, which is another way to mitigate the damage your team might receive since frozen enemies won't attack when they should, but rather they will attack later, resulting in reduced damage received. However, it's not his primary strength as there are other characters better suited for the freezing role.
